Public Health (MPH)
“UNH gives me the opportunity to be me, to be part of an academic community, to develop friendships, and to find the network that I crave to have here in New England…I like the classes at Manchester because it feels like a small college. After the first week of class you begin to recognize faces…the staff are out in the halls interacting with the students. I feel understood as both a working professional and a mom. UNH is amazing!”
-- Ruth Galvin, MPH Student
About the Public Health (MPH) Program
The UNH Graduate School offers the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree only on the Manchester campus. The Program is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health.
The MPH program offers admission for both the fall and spring semesters. In addition to completing Graduate School application requirements, interviews with the MPH Program Director are encouraged. If students follow the recommended course sequence, the program can be completed in two years.
Classes are offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 9:30 in four-hour blocks for eight (8) weeks. There are two exceptions for the spring term for first year students. Epidemiology and Biostatistics are held for three-hour blocks, one day a week for 16 weeks. All courses are supported by Blackboard, a web-based curriculum support program that allows students to access course materials as well as have synchronous and asynchronous contact with the instructor and fellow students.
The MPH was designed with the working professional in mind. Students ideally take two classes per term to complete the program in two years. The program can also be tailored to the student's schedule allowing up to six years to complete the program. Please note: If following the suggested two year schedule, MPH students are considered full time students, as within the traditional semester (August-December and January-May) students are enrolled in 9 credits or more, with the exception of the semester in which students take Epidemiology and Biostatistics for 16 weeks.
"...The faculty are excellent, caring, committed and brilliant....absolutely consider the UNH program in Manchester. It may be on of the best decisions of your life." -- Lynda Z. Caine, RN, BSN, CIC, MPH Graduate
The MPH Program also offers a Public Health Certificate. This twelve-credit program for working professionals can be completed part-time in one year. Graduates of the Certificate Program can apply and if accepted transfer credits earned into the MPH Program.
