Business Administration (MBA)
"I chose the Manchester campus for the networking opportunities that a program more geographically centered in the state could offer. Now I’m getting a world-class MBA education to apply to my daily job and almost more importantly, a new network of working professionals with a vast mix of backgrounds to lean on."
-- Tim Granfield, MBA Student
About the Business Administration Program
The Master of Business Administration (MBA) program offered by the Whittemore School of Business and Economics is an internationally accredited program designed for those who are highly motivated and capable of balancing a full-time work schedule with evening study. The flexible evening MBA program, instituted in 1996, has rapidly grown to become the Whittemore School's most popular MBA program.
Admissions
The GMAT [Graduate Management Admission Test] is required for admission to the program. The application deadlines are as follows: July 1 for Fall Term and November 15 for the Winter Term. Applicants are expected to have successfully completed one semester of calculus or have demonstrated proficiency in quantitative reasoning.
Curricula and Courses
The MBA curriculum is designed to build a base for understanding and analytical competence and includes 13 required courses and 3 electives. The required courses are divided into skill, functional, and policy courses with the skill courses early in the program. Students may take a maximum of two electives outside the department with approval from the MBA program office.
Some courses may be taught using distance technology. Each class is chosen to reflect a diverse mix of students from industry and functional backgrounds.
The program is designed with the working professional in mind. Students ideally take two classes per term to complete the program in two years. The program can also be tailored to the student's schedule allowing up to six years to complete the program.
Classes are offered from 5:30 pm to 9:15 pm one evening per week for ten weeks and each academic year begins with a residency session that meets two nights per week for five weeks. Please note: If following the suggested two year schedule, MBA students are considered full time students, as within the traditional semester (August-December and January-May) students are enrolled in 9 credits or more.
