Communities of Inquiry Conference
The Communities of Inquiry Conference highlights the valuable role of inquiry and inter-institutional partnerships (e.g., schools, universities, agencies) in professional and community development and reform. The conference serves as an opportunity for interested community-based professionals (education, health, housing, etc.) to network with colleagues, share their work, and explore possible partnerships and projects.
In 2011, the name of the conference was changed to Communities of Inquiry, Inquiry in Communities, from Annual Teachers as Researchers Conference, to be more inclusive of inter-disciplinary inquiries. Many professionals, educators, and community members are working both individually and collaboratively to enhance human agency and possibilities for young people and families in the communities they serve. Teacher Research remains an important strand of the conference but we are expanding the concept of “teaching/learning” to include non-formal education contexts (e.g., community centers, grassroots development projects, etc).
We invite classroom teachers, prospective teachers, school counselors, social workers, community agency directors, community leaders, IHE faculty, graduate students and administrators to submit proposals in one of the following four areas: community-based community inquiries/projects related to serving culturally/linguistically diverse populations. The types of presentations to be expected at the conference include presentations of papers, demonstrations, workshops, panel discussions, and interactive poster sessions.
