Prospective Students

Welcome
The mission of the Graduate School is to provide innovative, responsive, and accessible master’s and doctoral programs of the highest quality to graduate students. Our programs foster a close interdependence between research and classroom teaching. The 550 graduate faculty members and 2,400 graduate students at UNH work together to develop new theoretical and empirical acknowledge, design innovative methods and technologies to discover and disseminate that knowledge, and engage in undergraduate and graduate state-of-the-art teaching. The Graduate School is a source of intellectual capital for the University, the region, and the nation.

UNH is the primary institution within the University System of New Hampshire responsible for providing graduate programs that meet state, regional, and national needs and the only one at which doctoral programs are offered. Other units of the University System do offer some master’s programs.

The Graduate School is led by the dean, who implements the policies of the graduate faculty. The dean is advised by the Graduate Council, which is composed of elected faculty members and graduate student representatives.

We're a closely-knit community that values a diversity of people. We have a dedicated teaching faculty that cares about students, a commitment to responsive and high quality student services, a diverse student body, and we are ranked among the top 125 research universities.   We also boast a geographical setting that combines natural beauty with accessibility to city life, a campus that mixes cutting-edge resources with a comfortable and friendly climate, and a solid track record for graduating students with something to offer, wherever their journey takes them.
