Review the admissions requirements of your program carefully to be sure you submit any required tests.

Sometimes a department will waive test scores if you already have a  masters degree.  Contact your department of interest to see if this is an option for you.

English as a Second Language

Fall 2005

ENGL 400.  English as a Second Language
Listening comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing.  4 credits; may be repeated up to a total of 16 credits.  No letter grades; graded credit/fail.  Tuesday, Thursday 5:10-7:00 PM, HS 206.  This counts as a "writing intensive" course.  Classes begin on Tuesday, August 30.  Instructor:  To be determined.  Note:  Graduate students should register for ENGL 600 rather than ENGL 400.

ENGL 600.  English as a Second Language for Graduate Students
Listening comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing.  4 credits; may be repeated up to a total of 16 credits.  No letter grades; graded credit/fail.

  • Section 1.  Monday, Wednesday 6:10-8:00 PM, Hamilton Smith Hall room 206.  Classes begin on Monday August 29.  Instructor:  Dima Koleva. 
    Note:
      Undergraduate students should register for ENGL 400.
     

  • Section 6.  Tuesday, Thursday 6:10-8:00 PM, Hamilton Smith Hall room 42.  Classes begin on Tuesday, August 30.  Instructor:  Joleen Hanson.
    Note:  Undergraduate students should register for ENGL 400.

ENGL 401A.  Freshman English for ESL Students
Reading and writing in an academic context.  Frequent individual conferences for every student.  Satisfies the University's freshman English requirement.  This is a graded course.  4 credits.

  • Section 1.  Monday, Wednesday, Friday 8:10-9:00.  Hamilton Smith Hall room 202.  Instructor:  Jennifer Endicott.  Classes begin on Monday, August 29.
     

  • Section 2.  Monday Wednesday 7:10-8:30, Hamilton Smith Hall room 126.  Instructor:  Patricia Irwin.  Classes begin on Tuesday, August 30.

Matriculated UNH students can choose these courses as part of their regular course schedule.  Students from outside the University can register by calling 603-862-2015 or going in person to the Registrar's office in Stoke Hall.  The tuition for Outreach students is $230/credit for in-state students and $259/credit for out-of-state students.  Outreach students who do not wish to receive credit may "audit" the course for a tuition charge of $100/credit;  however, auditors are not accepted until after the course has begun, and only if space is available.  There is also a $20 registration fee, a $10 course fee, and a $13 "technology" fee.
