Vernon Brooks Carter, Assistant Professor of Social Work

Current Courses: Race, Culture and Oppression; Field Internship I Seminar

Background: Professor Carter came to UNH after completing his graduate work at Boston College. His research in the Social Work Department focuses on race:

“I’m by training a child protective worker, and am interested in examining the outcomes for child welfare issues based on their placement. I’m also looking at other pieces, including the race of the social worker and seeing if that has any impact upon outcomes for the child.”

Of UNH, Professor Carter says: “It’s well-located. You’re not living in a city, but you have the convenience of easily getting to Boston. Another positive is the campus itself. At UNH, you’re able to get into your studies and just do it, but you still have the convenience of getting to Boston for research possibilities, music, and other cultural events very easily.”

“You can find many positive things at this university. I love some of the productions and presentations that they’ve brought here. They’ve done a really nice job with these, and I think that for students of diverse backgrounds who had an opportunity to see them, they’re terrific. So, the opportunity to have a really nice get-together and to have students express themselves is there. The university’s open to things like this.”
