Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Programs Introduction The purpose of certificate programs is to serve the needs of both matriculated and non-degree students interested in developing specific skills and knowledge for personal and/or professional development. Graduate certificate programs are credit-based, taught by qualified graduate faculty, and aligned with existing graduate education curricula. While certificate programs are often chosen by students who do not wish to pursue a master’s or doctoral degree, courses completed during a certificate program may be applied toward degree requirements upon the approval of the appropriate graduate program coordinator and the Graduate School. There are two ways to apply to the PBACC program; either taking the degree as your primary degree or taking it as a secondary degree while already enrolled as a graduate student in another program. Primary Degree: If this will be your primary degree then you can download the Certificate Application Form in PDF format. Complete the printed form and then submit it along with any required documents, directly to the Graduate School Office. Please visit our Certificate Application Instructions webpage for complete instructions and information on how to apply. Secondary Degree: If this will be your secondary degree then please use the secondary degree application form and submit it to our office, Attention Cindy Glidden, along with the required documents and signatures from your current department - complete instructions will be on the form. Note that this form is only if you will be working on two degrees at the same time - your current primary degree as well as a certificate degree as your secondary degree. If you plan on graduating in your primary before starting the PBACC program then use the standard Certificate Application Form. Tuition Rates and Fees: All certificate students follow the same rules, rates and fee structure of regular graduate students with the exception that anyone with out of state residency are only charged 10% above the in-state tuition rate. You can find current tuition rates at the Business Services website. If you wish to claim in-state residency then you must submit a residency form. Mandatory fees will be based on the amount of credits you register for each semester and follow the same rules as regular graduate degree programs. Graduate School Academic Policy: In general students in a PBACC degree follow the same general policy as all graduate students. For example they must maintain a 3.0 or better GPA and only courses with a B- or better can be used to fulfill degree requirements. PBACC students have three years to complete their degree. For details on registration policy please contact your program for details. For current guidelines specific to PBACC programs please see our PBACC Academic and General Policy document. Possessing the requisite graduate degree(s), the interest, and
the research experience in an academic discipline may no longer
be sufficient for success as a college-level professor. Today's
faculty members must possess a set of skills and understandings
specific to effective teaching in a learner-centered
environment: they have to know how students learn, how to design
courses to enhance that learning, how to interact effectively
with students, and how to assess teaching and learning. This
program is designed to help faculty and graduate students learn
and sharpen these skills and to broaden their knowledge base in
the scholarship of college teaching.
